‘He who plants kindness, gathers love’
One tree planted , is a life given. Catholic Sabha, ICYM & YCS shirva along with the parishioners celebrated van mahotsav and organised plant distribution drive on 30th June, 2019.
Owning to the importance of ‘laudato si’ , van mahotsav was celebrated by understanding the duties of an individual towards our mother earth and distribution of wide range of flora and fauna. Followed by planting of saplings by the youth of YCS & ICYM.

June 30, 2019: Oath taking of the new YCS office bearers was held at Our Lady of Health Church Shirva. Also receiving of the new members for the YCS of Shirva unit. This ceremony was conducted during the first mass. V. Rev. Fr. Denis D’sa conducted the oath taking ceremony . Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, the animators of YCS Fr. Ashwin Aranha, Sr. Kavita, Mrs Jacintha Castelino and Mrs Maria Mathias were present on this occasion.
June 23, 2019: Commission for Family of Our Lady of Health Church Shirva organized ‘Fathers Day’ celebration for the first time at Don Bosco CBSE premises. The celebration began with the morning mass with all the liturgy and choir offered by the Fathers of the parish. Rev. Fr. Baptist Menezes (Rector, Minor Seminary of Udupi Diocese Moodubelle) was the main celebrant, assisted by Rev. Fr. Derick D’Souza (Capuchin Priest) and Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa. After mass, breakfast was served for more than 200 fathers who participated in this celebration. A formal function was also organized by the Commission for Family. Mr. Leslie Aroza (Diocese Director for Commission for Family) was the chief guest. He shared his experiences on the existing problems faced and role of a father in the family. Fr. Derick D’Souza shared the importance of the word ‘Father’ (In konkani as Bapoi/Pappa) and his responsibility in the family is more than a mother. Fr. Denis D’Sa sang a famous song written and composed by ‘Konkan Kogul Amar Wilfy Rebimbus’… Hya Sovnsaranth Ek Avoi Ek Bapoi.. A skit was played by Mr. Wilson D’Souza (Vice President, PPC), Mr. Lancy, Mr. Melwyn Aranha (18 Commission Coordinator) and Mrs. Pushpa Fernandes during this occasion. Mr. Grynal D’Mello compered the programme, Mrs. Pushpa Fernandes (Animator, Commission for Family) welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Vinitha (Secretary, Commission for Family) proposed the formal vote of thanks. Fr. Ashwin Aranha, Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, Mr. Wilson Rodrigues (member of Zilla Panchayat), Mrs Leena Machado (Secretary, PPC) were also a present during this programme.

ICYM Unit Shirva organised a deanery-level quiz competition titled “Battle of Brains” on 26th May, 2019 in order to improve the knowledge and thinking capacity of our youth. It was conducted by Prof. Melvin Castelino, St Mary’s College Shirva. Youth from various parishes participated actively. The Pangla Youth won the first prize in the quiz competition, followed by the Shirva Youth (First Runner Up) and Pamboor Youth (Second Runner Up). The competition was followed by a road safety talk by Sub-Inspector Sri. Abdul Kadar and Inspector Sri. Shantharam (Kaup Circle). Udupi Diocese ICYM President Dion was also present during this programme. Overall, it was a very informative and successful event for youth.
