Community Day celebrated at Our Lady of Health Church Shirva

Our Lady of Health Church Shirva celebrated COMMUNITY DAY on December 2, 2018 from 4:30 PM onwards. The program started with a mass, Rev. Fr. Denis D’sa was the main celebrant along with Fr. Mahesh D’Souza and Fr. Ashwin Aranha. Guests of Honour Rev. Fr. Herald Pereira (Udupi Diocese 18 Commission Coordinator and Small Christian Community Director), Rev. Fr. Paul Rego (Parish Priest, Pamboor Parish), Fr. Roman Mascarenhas (Spritual Director, Minor Seminary Moodubelle) and Rev. Fr. Kiran Nazareth were also present.

Refreshments were provided to all the parishioners after mass and the cultural program was started. Many wards came together and performed various cultural activities. Shirva Parish had also bagged First Place in Mission Sunday Collection at the Diocese Level and the trophy was handed over to Mr. Melwyn Aranha (18 Commission Coordinator) and Suvartha Prasar Ayog members during the occassion. Mr. Wilson D’Souza (Vice President of Shirva PPC) welcomed the gathering, Mrs. Vinutha Mendonca (Small Christian Community Coordinator) read the report of the activities organised by SCC and Mrs. Leena Machado (Secretary of Shirva PPC) proposed the formal vote of thanks. Mr. Grynal D’Mello compered the program and Mr. Leston D’Souza provided the background music for the whole event.

The event was concluded by dinner to all the parishioners of Shirva.

Medical Professionals’ Conference

Health Commission Shirva Deanery in collaboration with Health Commission Udupi Diocese and USWAS Foundation Shirva had organized Medical Professionals’ Conference (A Conference of Doctors, Nurses and Para-Medical) on 26th November 2018 at Saud Sabha Bhavan from 9:00 AM onwards. The theme of the conference was “Respect for Life: Contemporary Challenges”. Most Rev. Dr. Jerald Issac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese had presided over the function. Rev. Dr. Praveen Leo Lasrado (Professor, Moral Theology, St. Joseph Seminary M’lore), Rev. Fr. Rockwin Pinto (Professor, Moral Theology, St. Joseph Seminary M’lore) and Dr. Leslie Lewis (Paediatrician, KMC Manipal) were the chief guests and resource persons. V. Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa (Parish Priest, Shirva and Deanary Director) was the guest of honour. Dr .Edward Lobo (Diocesan Director of Health Commission), Mr. Wilson D’Souza (Vice President, Pastoral Parish Council Shirva) and Mrs. Gretta Menezes (Secretary of  Shirva Deanary Health Commission) were present during this program. The resource persons presented an overview on various topics on human dignity and respect for life. The program was concluded with the formal vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Gretta Menezes.

Kavita Trust organized Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition at Shirva

Kavita Trust organized Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition at Shirva in Don Bosco English Medium School Audio Visual Hall on 18th November, 2018. The competition was organized under two categories – Above 15 yrs and below 15 yrs. Rev. Fr. Ashwin Aranha welcomed the gathering. Konkani Sahitya Academy Award winner Mr. Melwyn Rodrigues gave an overview about Kavita Trust as well as various activities organised by the Trust. Mr. Kishore Gonzalves (Kishu Barkur), Mr. Andrew D’Cunha, Mr. William Pais (Director, Orchid Art Gallery) judged the event. 9 participants presented the Kavita. V. Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa thanked the organisers for conducting the event at Shirva. One each from junior and senior category were selected for the next round.

Children’s Day Celebration at Don Bosco Kannada Medium School, Shirva

Don Bosco Kannada Medium Higher Primary School, Shirva celebrated Children’s Day on 14th November, 2018. Varieties of games were organised to the students. V. Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa (Correspondent and Parish Priest, Shirva) addressed the students. He wants students to be successful who can be the future leaders of the nation. Moreover, a cultural programme was performed by the teachers which grabbed the attention of the students. Fr. Denis D’Sa involved himself in the games along with the students.
