Shirva Parish Celebrates Annual Feast in Honor of Our Lady of Health Church

January 31, 2024: Our Lady of Health Church in Shirva was adorned with festive lights and vibrant decorations as parishioners came together to celebrate the annual feast with immense joy and reverence. The highlight of the day was the gracious presence of Bishop Emeritus Aloysius Paul D’Souza, who was warmly welcomed at the main entrance of the church by the esteemed Parish Priest, V. Rev. Dr. Leslie D’Souza.

Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, the procession led by Bishop Emeritus Aloysius Paul D’Souza made its way to the church, accompanied by the melodious strains of hymns and brass band. Parishioners lined the streets, offering prayers and greetings as the procession passed by, symbolizing the unity and devotion of the community.

Once inside the church, the solemnity of the occasion was palpable as Bishop Emeritus Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over a heartfelt mass, delivering a stirring sermon that resonated with the congregation. His words of wisdom and encouragement inspired all present to deepen their faith and commitment to their spiritual journey. The day served as a poignant reminder of the enduring faith and rich traditions cherished by the community of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva. Priests from various parishes witnessed the ceremony by participating in the mass.

Christmas Eve

December 24, 2023: The eve of Christmas was a jubilant affair at Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva as the devout community gathered for an evening brimming with reverence and merriment. Commencing at 6:30 pm, resonating melodies of traditional Christmas carols filled the air, setting the stage for a poignant 7 pm mass.

Led by the esteemed Msgr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Vicar General of Udupi Diocese, the sacred service saw the presence of esteemed clergy members including V. Rev. Fr. Dr. Leslie D’Souza, Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Rolwyn Aranha, Rev. Fr. Ronson Pinto, Rev. Fr. Jason Lobo, alongside several other revered priests, fostering an atmosphere of spiritual sanctity and communal harmony.

Post the soul-stirring mass, the youth groups, ICYM and YCS, orchestrated a vibrant cultural program that enthralled attendees. The highlight of the evening, the Christmas Pot Auction, drew fervent participation. In a heartwarming display of generosity, Mr. Arul D’Souza secured the coveted Christmas Pot with a bid of Rs. 25,000, igniting cheers and applause among the congregation.

The festivities continued with an engaging round of Housie Housie, bringing the evening to a lively close, filled with laughter and camaraderie. The event encapsulated the true spirit of Christmas, blending solemnity with joyous celebration, leaving an indelible mark of unity and goodwill within the community.

Nineteen Children received First Holy Communion

November 26, 2023: Nineteen children from Shirva Parish received their First Holy Communion. Bishop Salvadore Lobo, Bishop Emeritus, was the main celebrant. The V. Rev. Father Leslie D’Souza, Rev. Fr Ronson Pinto, Rev. Fr. Jason Lobo, and several other priests were present during the ceremony.
