Sports Meet at Don Bosco English Medium School

Don Bosco English Medium School organised their Annual Sports meet on 11th October 2018 in St. Marys Ground. Dr. Mohan Alva, Managing Director, Alva’s Education Foundation Moodabidri was the Chief Guest. Fr. Mahesh D’Souza (Prinicipal, Don Bosco English Medium School) welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa (Correspondent, Don Bosco and St. Marys Institutions) hoisted the sports flag. Dr. Alva was escorted to the dias with due respect by the college band followed by Fr. Denis D’Sa, Fr. Mahesh D’Souza, Mr. Wilson D’Souza (Vice President of Shirva Parish Council), Mrs. Leena Machado (Secretary of Shirva Parish Council) and Mr. Melwyn Aranha (18 Commissions Coordinator). The Annual Sports meet was officially inauguarated by the guests of honour by releasing the balloons. Dr. Alva during this occasion expressed his interest towards sports and motivated the students saying ‘Defeat and Victory is common in life’. The fight to win is more important inorder to prove the qualities in human life.

An Evening with Rosary

The rosary is a true Catholic devotion. It is a form of prayer and meditation in honor of Mother Mary.

On the occasion of this feast ICYM Shirva, organized an evening with rosary at Our Lady of Health Church Shirva on Sunday, 7th October at 6.30pm. More than 400 devotees participated in the rosary. All the devotees were distributed with rosary of holy mary.  Rev. Fr. Wilson D’souza, Parish Priest of Kuntalnagar had participated in the rosary. He delivered a sermon on the importance of rosary in our family. The rosary began with a hymn. The rosary contained prayers , hymns , videos. Payasam was distributed to all the gathering.

Free Cancer Checkup and Awareness Camp for Ladies

Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva in association with USWAS UAE, Commission for Health and Women and KMC Manipal Cancer Centre organised Free Cancer Checkup and Awareness Camp for Ladies on 11th October, 2018 in Don Bosco English Medium School premises. Mrs Gretta Menezes, Health Commision Coordinator of Shirva Parish Welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by V. Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa by lighting the lamp who had presided over the function. Dr. Ishwari from KMC Manipal gave the awareness about Cancer. In specific, the different kinds of cancer that ladies face, its symptoms and the treatments. Mrs Flavia D’Souza compered the programme and Secretary of Commission for Health proposed the vote of thanks.

SDM SPORTS CLUB WINS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE 46th MEN AND WOMEN SENIOR WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP

Karnataka State Weightlifters association and St. Mary’s College Shirva jointly organised state weightlifting championship 2018-19 during 1st to 3rd October 2018 at Saude Sabha Bhavan Shirva. The competitions were held under 10 categories for men and women.  The team championship won by SDM Sports Club and runnerup secured by Alva’s College Moodbidri.  Manjunath of SCM Sports Club has been adjudged as the Best Lifter among men. Under women category Alva’s College Moodbidri was the winner and Alva’s Ekalavya became first runnerup. Keerthi of SAI Bangalore has been adjudged as the Best lifter among women. Simultaneously Mangalore University Inter-collegiate weightlifting men and women and also Best Physique competitions were held. Weight lifting competitions were also held in 10 categories for men and women.  The Men Weightlifting “Prof. Richard Rebello Rolling Trophy” team championship won by Alvas College, Moodabidri and runner up secured by SDM College, Ujire. Manjunath of SDM College, Ujire has been adjudged as the best lifter. The women weightlifting  “”Shirva Blossom Mansion Celestine D’Souza Trophy” team Championship won by Alva’s College, Moodabidri and runner up secured by SDM College, Ujire. Gurusale Deepali Datttraya of Alva’s College, Moodabidri has been adjudged as the Best Lifter.

The Mangalore University intercollegiate Best Physique competitions were held under 6 categories for men and Mohammed Nabeel of SDM College of Business Management Mangalore secured “Mr. Mangalore University” title.

The Valedictory programme of the three-day event was held meaningfully as Mr. Safthar Ali, NRI Entrepreneur and first medalist of St. Mary’s College said, that the college successfully organised the event this time as it was in the last 6 times in the past. He also appreciated the role of the college Physical education Director Mr. Venugopalakrishna Nonda for his sacrifice and hard work in bringing up the rural talents from this college. Mrs. Surekha Inspector CISF working at Neyveli Lignite Corporation an alumna of the college and a sportsperson remembered the days of her college studies and the supporting role played by Nonda sir to making her a sports personality through which she secured a job in her life.  The valedictory programme is presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Denis Alexander D’Sa, Correspondent of St. Mary’s and Don Bosco institutions Shirva, stated that a new era has begun where we find the sports medallists are emerging from the rural area unlike from the urban. He also commended the hard work of the St. Mary’s College Alumni Association and Karnataka State weightlifting Association making the event a grand success. He also thanked Mangalore University for giving an opportunity to host the intercollegiate weightlifting and Best Physique competitions in our college. Dr. Haridas Kulur, Assistant Director of Physical Education, Mangalore University and Prof. Rajan V. N., Principal of the college were present in the programme. Mr. Venugopalakrisna Nonda, the organising secretary welcomed the gathering, Mr. Vishwanath Kaup, President of the St. Mary’s College Alumni Association proposed vote of thanks, State level prizes and University level prizes were distributed during the programme. Asst. Prof. Melwin Castelino compered the programme.

Social Media Awareness for Don Bosco Kannada Medium High School Students

Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva under Commission for Social Media organized a informative talk on Social Media Awareness for Don Bosco Kannada Medium High School students on 6th October 2018 at Don Bosco CBSE School. Mr Vinod Fernandis Gangolli, Proprietor Media Vision Mangalore was the chief guest and gave information to the students about the advantages and disadvantages of social media, effects of social media on study and recent devolopments of media through videos, power point presentation and group discussions. Rev. Fr Mahesh Dsouza, (Principal Don Bosco English Medium School) had presided over the program and called upon the students to make use of the program. Mr. Melwyn Dsouza (Coordinator, Social Media Commission) welcomed the gathering and Mr Melwyn Aranha (18 commission Coordinator) proposed vote of thanks. Mr. Gilbert Pinto (Principal St Marys High School) compered the program. Mrs Leena Machado, (Secretary of Shirva Parish Council) was present. More than 150 students had participated in the program.
