SORPU UPPER WARD Inaugurates Renovated Grotto, Honoring Tradition and Community

July 28, 2024: SORPU UPPER WARD community celebrated a momentous occasion with the inauguration of the newly renovated grotto, a beloved landmark that has stood for 60 years in its original location. The event, held from 4 to 5 p.m., marked a blend of tradition and renewal, bringing together ward members and esteemed guests.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by our esteemed Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Leslie C Dsouza, followed by a heartfelt prayer service. The guests of honor included Asst. Parish Priest Fr. Ronson Pinto, Parish Council Vice President Mr. Melwin Aranha, Nativity Convent Superior Sr. Diana, along with Sr. Jessy and Sr. Priyanka of Nativity Convent, Mrs. Agnes Barboza, Gurunja Ward Gurkar, Mr. Melwin Dsouza, Ward Representative of Sorpu Lower Ward, and Mrs. Nancy Machado, Sorpu Upper Ward Gurkar, who warmly welcomed the crowd.

The inauguration coincided with Senior Citizen Day, adding a special touch to the event. All senior citizens present were honored with a rose as a token of appreciation. During the event, Mr. William Machado, Ward Representative, shared the rich history of the grotto, providing a nostalgic glimpse into its past. Mr. Felix Dsouza read out the names of the donors who were felicitated by the esteemed guests.

The Parish Priest also took the opportunity to felicitate Mr. Robin Menezes, Mr. Ronald Correa, Mr. Anil D’Souza, Mr. Felix D’Souza, Mr. Jerald Mathias, and Mr. Ashok Nazareth, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in the construction of the grotto. In his message, the vicar shared insights about Mother Mary, Mother of God, and encouraged the children to draw closer to God, reminding them of His ever-present welcome.

The event saw an attendance of 150 ward members, with Mr. Anil Dsouza serving as the host. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Lorna Dsouza, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event.

The ceremony concluded with refreshments and light chit-chat, fostering a sense of community and fellowship.

This renovation not only preserves a historical landmark but also strengthens the bonds within our parish, ensuring that the grotto remains a place of prayer and reflection for generations to come.
